Ultrasound provides detailed, non-invasive images of the organs and soft tissues inside your pet’s abdomen or chest.

Fluid within the abdomen or chest
Samples may also be collected during the procedure when medically appropriate.

Endoscopy uses a small camera to examine the esophagus, stomach, and portions of the gastrointestinal tract.
It may be used for:
Gastrointestinal biopsies
Evaluation of chronic vomiting
Investigation of swallowing difficulties
Examination of the stomach or esophagus
Retrieval of certain swallowed foreign objects
Foreign-body retrieval may be available without surgery in select cases, depending on the object’s location, your pet’s condition, and same-day specialist availability.

Cystoscopy allows the specialist to directly examine the lower urinary tract using a small camera.
It may be recommended for:
Recurrent urinary tract infections
Blood in the urine
Urinary incontinence
Abnormal urinary symptoms
Suspected bladder or urethral abnormalities
Small bladder stones
Urinary masses
Cystoscopy may also allow the specialist to:
Collect samples
Obtain biopsies
Remove certain small stones
Examine the bladder and urethra without open surgery

Bronchoscopy uses a small camera to examine the lower airways and lungs. A bronchoalveolar lavage, commonly called a BAL, collects fluid and cells for laboratory testing.
These procedures may be recommended for:
Chronic coughing
Breathing difficulties
Recurrent pneumonia
Suspected lower-airway disease
Airway collapse
Masses
Foreign objects
Unexplained respiratory symptoms

Rhinoscopy uses a small camera to examine the nasal passages and sinuses.
It may help investigate:
Chronic nasal discharge

The specialist may also collect biopsies or remove certain obstructions during the procedure.

Fox Run Veterinary Hospital offers specialty oncology services in partnership with Dr. Jen Arthur, a board-certified veterinary oncologist, and her veterinary technician, Elsa.
Oncology appointments are available in our hospital on Thursdays.

Electrochemotherapy
Electrochemotherapy, also called ECT, combines a small dose of chemotherapy with targeted electrical pulses.
The electrical pulses help the medication enter cancer cells more effectively while limiting exposure to surrounding tissues.
ECT may be an option for certain:
Soft-tissue sarcomas
Mast cell tumors
Oral tumors
Localized or difficult-to-remove tumors
It may be considered when traditional surgery or radiation therapy is not the best option.

Dr. Stephanie Smith
Internal Medicine Specialist
Dr. Stephanie Smith is a board-certified veterinary internal medicine specialist.
She earned both her bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University. She then completed a Small Animal Surgery and Medicine Rotating Internship and a Small Animal Internal Medicine Residency at Cornell University.
Before returning to Colorado, Dr. Smith spent more than three years working at one of the largest specialty centers in Los Angeles.
Her areas of clinical interest include:
Gastroenterology
Endocrinology
Immune-mediated disease
Liver and kidney conditions
Chronic and complicated illnesses
Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Smith enjoys swimming, hiking, reading, and spending time with her family, friends, and dog, Sage.

Dr. Jen Arthur
Veterinary Oncologist
Dr. Jen Arthur is a board-certified veterinary oncologist with extensive training in both radiation and medical oncology.
After beginning her education in English, she earned an additional undergraduate degree in Biology and Genetics from Colorado State University. She attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed her clinical training at Texas A&M University.
Dr. Arthur went on to complete:
A veterinary internship at Kansas State University
A Radiation Oncology Residency
Board certification in radiation oncology
A Medical Oncology Residency
She has provided cancer care in specialty practices across the country and collaborated with Duke’s Comparative Oncology department on multiple research projects.
Dr. Arthur’s goal is to help pets maintain an excellent quality of life while extending the meaningful time they have with their families. She believes families should understand every available path, from advanced treatment to palliative and hospice care.
